Anonymous asked: Do you provide your books for free?
No, and there are several reasons for it:
- I am an independent writer who self-publishes his books. I have no salary or any other source of income. Getting paid for my books is my only way of making a living and putting food on the table. Authors who give away their books for free have corporations backing them up or are rich through other means.
- I keep my book prices very low. For example, my book My Other Mom Is A Teacher is priced at just $0.99. You cannot even buy a can of coke in a vending machine or a cup of coffee at Starbucks for that price. Other books are all priced less than the price of a meal at McDonald’s. In other words, they are very affordable.
- I am also hoping that people who genuinely enjoy reading and want to support writers should pay for the books. If we cannot make a living, we would have no choice but to stop writing and start flipping hamburgers at the minimum wage and that would be a great loss to the society. The way we pay for almost everything in our daily life — even free things like roads and parks are paid for in form of annual taxes — we should pay for books as well.
- You can sign up for Amazon Prime membership (which does cost a fee per month) that allows you to read ebooks for free and you also get free shipping, free movies/videos.
